Chapter Twenty Five: Silence Isn't Always Golden

After spending almost the entire day roaming around the city, Emmalina finally gathered her courage to go home. As soon as she walked into the door her mother was there asking her questions.

"Why did you just walk out? Where did you go? Is everything okay?" Amelia asked with worry in her voice.

"Mom, I'm fine. I just wasn't feeling very well."

"Why couldn't you tell us that?"

"I'm sorry. I just wanted to get out of there. That umm...Demoness was giving me the creeps and I didn't want to be rude." She lied.

"Oh, yeah. That was pretty freaky. Alesana was worried about you too."

"Well, I'm fi....." Not again.

Emmalina took off to the bathroom. Amelia waited until she heard the sink running and briefly knocked on the door and walked in. "Emmalina, are you alright?"

"Yeah. My last client had the Flu when I talked to him. It seems I've caught it as well."

"Then you need to go lay down in bed and I'll make you some Chicken Noodle soup."

"I think I just want to walk and get some fresh air. It's hot in here."

"It's almost dark."

"I'll be fine. The cool breeze will feel good on my skin. Plus I might do some shopping. I think getting out will make me feel better."

"I don't think that's how the Flu works, Emmalina."

"Trust me Mom, I'll be fine. If I start feeling worse, I'll come straight home."

"Alright. Call me if you need me to come get you."

"Thanks, Mom. I love you."

"I love you too."

Emmalina walked out the door and grabbed a cab to Sebastian's house.

On the way to Sebastian's house she was trying to figure out how to tell him about the baby. She wanted so badly to chicken out and go somewhere else but this had to be done. Her jeans already felt a little snug and soon everyone would notice she was pregnant. As the cab dropped her off she took a deep breath and opened the door. He was in the living room so she walked over to him. He grabbed her in an embrace and kissed her. Emmalina wrapped her arms around him, holding on for dear life. She hoped he was the man she thought he was. She hoped he could be the strong shoulder she desperately needed to lean on. She held on tighter when she started shaking from nervousness. Her stomach was doing flips and she was scared she might have to throw up again.

"Emmalina. You are scared to death. What is wrong? Did someone hurt you?" He asked anger already rising to the surface at the thought of anyone touching her. He could smell the fear rolling off of her now.

She took a step back from him but she couldn't bring herself to look him in the eyes. Tears started form in her eyes and she tried to hold them back.

"Emmalina. What is going on? I cannot fix it if you do not tell me. Did something happen with your parents? Do they know you are mated to a vampire? They did not kick you out did they?"

"No. It's not that. It's....I need to sit down." He led her to the couch and sat down with her. Sebastian was trying to be patient with her but he was starting to feel antsy. She starred at the coffee table in front of her. "Bastian, I....I'm pregnant." There! Finally, I said it out loud. She waited a minute to let it sink in and turned to look at him. His face was frozen in....horror. "Bastian? Did you hear me?" Sebastian didn't say a word. Emmalina didn't know what to do. This isn't what she was expecting. She admitted to herself that in the back of her mind, she hoped he would be happy. Apparently he's not the man I thought he was. She thought sadly. She got up and left him still sitting there. As she walked out the door she took one last look at him. I didn't want to do this by myself. She headed down his driveway and burst into tears. She had never felt so alone in her entire life.

Sebastian sat on the couch lost in his turmoil. Her words replaying again and again in his head. Each time he replayed it, a little piece of him died each time.

As Emmalina walked down Main Street trying to figure out what her options were, she noticed a maternity clothes store and decided she might as well go in. She tried on a few outfits and checked herself out in the mirrors outside of the dressing room. Well, this isn't so horrible I guess. She looked down at the matching shoes. Well these probably won't be comfortable but they will work for now. When she looked back up into the mirror, she wasn't alone anymore. Sebastian was standing there and he looked like someone had ripped out his heart and tossed it in a blender. But she tried not to care because she needed to be angry at him. He had just sat there without a word after it took everything she had to tell him she was pregnant and all she had gotten in return was silence.

"What are you doing here?" She asked as she turned around to face him.

"Emmalina, I am sorry. I did not mean..."

"Can you please speak like you're from this century!? We use contractions now! It wouldn't kill you to modernize yourself a bit." She said as she interrupted him. She knew it was stupid but he was starting to irk her. She couldn't say what she really wanted to say to him, not without crying and she didn't want to cry in front him. Not after what happened at his house. She was so angry with him for putting this all on her. She was scared, lonely but she would be dammed before she let him see it.

"You're angry." He said, modernizing his speech. If it would please her, he'd do it without a second thought.

"Of course I'm angry. You wouldn't even talk to me. You just let me walk out the door feeling like I was all alone."

"I couldn't. You have no idea what I'm trying to deal with."

"What YOU'RE trying to deal with? Are you fucking kidding me!? This is just unb..."

"Emmalina I have just sentenced you to death!!" He said raising his voice above her's.

He pulled her closer to him and laid his head on her shoulder. She pulled his head up so he would look her in the face. "Wha....what?" She asked, shocked by what he just said.

"Emmalina, I'm so sorry. This is all my fault."

"What are you talking about? Why am I going to die?"

"You are carrying an immortal being. You are mortal, Emmalina. You're body can't handle giving birth to one of us."

"I thought it couldn't be immortal if the parent was human?"

He shook his head. "You are only half human. The child won't have enough mortal blood to keep it from being immortal." Sebastian slumped on the couch in the dressing room. "I can't believe I've found my mate and killed her myself all within one year. I truly am a monster." He said to himself.

She walked over to him and sat in his lap to try and comfort him. "You don't know that I'll die. I'm half witch remember? That has to count for something?"

"Your body is still mortal. It doesn't heal like ours, you aren't as strong or fast and Witches are the weakest of us all. They may be stronger and faster than humans but no where near what most of us are capable of. Their magic helps balance it out but that can't do anything for you now."

"I'm not giving up that easily. I think we should go talk to Alesana." She said trying to give him some hope. She refused to believe that this was it, this was where her life ended. "She'll know what to do."

"In the Lore she is known as Alesana the Ever Knowing. She's never gotten a prediction wrong. I guess it's worth a try." He told her. He wasn't buying it but he pretended for her sake. How could I let this happen? Is this fate's way of punishing me for all the death I have delivered? Well, they will have their way because I am in agony. I would have rather been burned alive for all eternity than to see her in any kind of pain. Gods, I beg of you, somehow, save her.

"Bastian?" Emmalina asked, interrupting his thoughts and silent prayer. "Should we go now?"

"Yes." He helped her grab her old clothes. He paid the cashier and they walked out the store to head to Alesana's.

When they got there she opened the door and let them in. "I know why you are here." She said as they walked into the house. "I'm sorry but it's going to cost you. I don't do this for free you know?"

"What do you want? Sebastian asked.

"$50,000 should do it."

"Holy..." Emmalina started.

"Done."

"Do you vow it to the Lore?"

"I vow it."

"What does that mean?" Emmalina asked, getting a little confused.

"It's an unbreakable vow. You break it, you die." Sebastian answered. "Answer our question." He said turning to Alesana.

"You're child will be immortal but Emmalina will be there to raise it." She said as she shifted her eyes to Sebastian.

Emmalina breathed a sigh of relief. But Sebastian knew this wasn't the whole story. The witch was hiding something.

"Oh God, I think I'm going to be sick again. Where's the bathroom?" Emmalina said with her hand over her mouth.

"It's the 2nd door on your right." Alesana answered.

When Emmalina went into the bathroom and shut the door, Alesana turned back to Sebastian. "After she has the child, you must turn her. It might not be what she wants but if you don't, she will die."

"I cannot turn her against her will. I can't take that from her." Can I?

"Unless you want her to die, then I suggest you do it. She will refuse it but once she loses consciousness, you'll be able to do it then. She will think she can survive on her own but she is sadly mistaken. I'm sorry vampire, I truly am but there is no other way."

"I can't take her humanity away. It's selfish and you know it."

"Fine. Then I guess we will be having a double funeral in about 8 months. Though you will probably be nothing more than ashes. Then your child will have no parents left. Do you know what happens to vampire children in the Lore when there is no one to protect them? The Valkyries use them as target practice, the Lycans use them as chew toys...the Demons..."

"I get it."

"Yeah, vampires really should have thought everything through before they went around killing everyone."

"I didn't do that, some of that was before my time."

"Doesn't matter. You're a vampire. That's just how it is. I personally don't have anything against them. They have left us alone for the most part. Look I know I'm giving you a gilt trip from Hell but I don't really want to see her die either. She has a pure heart. You rarely see that anymore in humans or loreans. You need to follow your instincts, not your emotions. You were brought into our world, not born in it. You barely understand half of it but trust me, it's a cruel, ruthless world we're in. You better get use to it. Each of us will do anything we have to so we and our mates can survive and if that means turning yours without her consent....then so be it. You aren't known as Sebastian the Fierce for nothing. You are a great warrior, now fight for what is yours."

"I just..." Sebastian stopped what he was saying when Emmalina came out of the bathroom.

"Bastian, I'm not feeling so great." Emmalina said as the room started to spin a little.

"Let's get you home so you can rest." Sebastian started to lead Emmalina to the door.

Alesana let her guard down to make sure he would hear her. Remember what I said Vampire. She's dies, you all die. Oh and tell her how you feel. She's not even sure if you love her or not. But we both know you do. She feels like she's alone in this. Let her know what's in that beating heart of yours.

Alesana watched them walk out the door. When she was sure they were gone, she smiled at the full moon high in the sky and stripped off her clothes to run in the woods to find her own mate.

When they got back to his house, Emmalina curled on the bed, trying to fight through her dizzy spell. Sebastian joined her and pulled her into his arms. He thought about what the witch said and decided to follow her advice. "Emmalina, look at me." Sebastian said and Emmalina lifted her head. "You aren't alone in this. Where ever you go, I'll follow. Emmalina, I love you."

"I love you too." She lifted her head a little more and kissed him. I can't believe I didn't realize that sooner. I just wish it would fix everything. "I feel better about this since we left Alesana's. Though, I'm still a little scared and I feel very unprepared. I don't know anyone who has had an immortal child. I just wish I had someone to talk to. I wish I could talk to my Mom about this but that's out of the question."

"Actually, I may know someone. An old friend of mine is mated to a Valkyrie. He called me last week to tell me they were expecting their first child. I must warn you though, they are....quite the pair."

"Do you think I could meet her?"

"Yes. I'll take you over there tomorrow night if you wish."

"Thank you. I'd like that. Oh and Bastian? I'm sorry I fussed at you about your speech. I was just angry and ill."

"You have no need to apologize. You were right, it's time I left my past in the past and learn to adapt more. I just wanted to hold onto something from my human life. But I think it's time to let it go and move on."

Emmalina murmured her approval and laid her head back down on his chest and closed her eyes. Sebastian was having his own personally battle with himself about what to do when the time came. Suddenly they heard banging on the front door. "Emmalina! Are you in there?"

"Oh shit! That's my mother!"

NOTES:

Don't you guys just love cliffhangers? (Thought I'd throw in a little revenge for Redhead. Lol.) Anyways...next chapter Amelia finds out what her daughter has been up to. There will also be two very special guest stars too. Also, I didn't want to do that scene like that but of course when I was trying to get all the poses right, Emmalina picks the perfect time to change into her maternity clothes and I didn't feel like restarting the game without saving. But hopefully everyone likes how it worked out.

  1. How did Amelia find them??? Damn her! Also, I was completely wrong about Bastion being excited. Screw vampires. lol

I do hope that, when the time comes, Emmalina will forgive him for turning her. If he can go through with it that is. I'm not guessing at what he will do anymore!
